3rd Aviation Expo

ABOUT THIS IMPACT

Another HUGE success for the third year in a row. Nearly 2,000 Broward and Miami-Dade County Students and community participants benefited from the Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam’s 3rd Annual Aviation Expo held at the Amphitheater at Miramar Regional Park on Friday December 6th and Saturday, December 7th. Friday was the dedicated Broward and Miami-Dade County Student Field Trip Day and Saturday was FREE to the Community Day.  Based right here in Miramar, Spirit Airlines is the title sponsor, joined by the Broward County Aviation Department (Ft Lauderdale Airport), Miramar Park of Commerce and The Ansin Family Foundation, Richard P. Hall Eagles Foundation, and Broward County Public Schools and the VEX Robotics Competition.  Exposure to the vast traditional and non-traditional career opportunities in the growing field of aviation was accomplished. Engaging  and interactive hands-on experience with industry professions and educators drove the two-day experience.  Students watched the Broward County Sheriff’s Office helicopter land in the Heli Pad and had the opportunity to walk up and meet the pilot and hear about their first responder role as helicopter pilots.  Aviation Program representatives from Florida Memorial University, Embry-Riddle University, Broward College program details and associated career opportunities.  Uniformed members of The Organization of Black Aerospace Professions, the Latino Pilots Association and the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees inspired and encouraged participants to explore the vast opportunities.  On Saturday, over 45 Broward middle and high school robotics teams participated in VEX robotic scrimmages and brought an awakening of the fun and intrigue of STEM in action.  The Air Force Recruiting Station brought a first class 2 flight simulator stations and an intriguing display about the STEM opportunities in the Air Force. Drone demonstrations were a hit as well.
